Safety

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Bolt has standard Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Rear Cross Traffic Braking, systems which detect vehicles approaching from the sides and can automatically apply the brakes to prevent a collision. Parking Support Brake costs extra on the Prius Plug-In Hybrid.

The Bolt’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Prius Plug-In Hybrid’s (6 vs. 5 years).

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are better in initial quality than Toyota vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet above average in initial quality. With 22 more problems per 100 vehicles, Toyota is rated below average.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Chevrolet Bolt higher (10 out of 10) than the Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid (6). This means the Bolt produces up to 12.9 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Prius Plug-In Hybrid every 15,000 miles.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Bolt has larger tires than the Prius Plug-In Hybrid (215/50R17 vs. 195/60R17).

The Bolt’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Prius Plug-In Hybrid SE’s standard 60 series tires.

The Bolt has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Prius Plug-In Hybrid doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.
