2027 Chevrolet Bolt
2026 Toyota Mirai

Safety

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Bolt are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Mirai doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

Both the Bolt and the Mirai have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available around view monitors and driver alert monitors.

Warranty

The Bolt’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Mirai’s (6 vs. 5 years).

There are over 2 times as many Chevrolet dealers as there are Toyota dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Bolt’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are better in initial quality than Toyota vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet above average in initial quality. With 22 more problems per 100 vehicles, Toyota is rated below average.

Engine

The Bolt’s electric motor produces 28 more horsepower (210 vs. 182) than the Mirai’s electric motor.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Bolt gets better mileage than the Mirai (134 city/106 hwy vs. 74 city/70 hwy MPGe).

Tires and Wheels

The Bolt’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Mirai’s standard 55 series tires.

The Bolt has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Mirai doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the Bolt’s turning circle is .8 feet tighter than the Mirai’s (37.7 feet vs. 38.5 feet).

Chassis

The Chevrolet Bolt may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 450 to 500 pounds less than the Toyota Mirai.

The Bolt is 2 feet, 2.2 inches shorter than the Mirai, making the Bolt easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the Bolt uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Mirai doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Passenger Space

The Bolt has 1.6 inches more front headroom, 2.1 inches more front legroom, 1.1 inches more rear headroom and 6 inches more rear legroom than the Mirai.

Cargo Capacity

The Bolt’s standard rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The Mirai doesn’t offer folding rear seats.

Servicing Ease

A maintenance reminder system is standard on the Bolt to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals for tire rotation, based on odometer mileage. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Toyota doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the Mirai.

Ergonomics

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Bolt has a standard rear wiper. The Mirai doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

On extremely cold winter days, the Bolt’s optional heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the vehicle heater warms up. The Mirai doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.
