Safety

The Express Cargo’s optional lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane. The eSprinter doesn’t offer a lane departure warning system.

Both the Express Cargo and the eSprinter have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available collision warning systems, blind spot warning systems and rear parking sensors.

Warranty

Chevrolet’s powertrain warranty covers the Express Cargo 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Mercedes covers the eSprinter. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the eSprinter ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

The Express Cargo’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the eSprinter’s (6 vs. 5 years).

There are almost 8 times as many Chevrolet dealers as there are Mercedes dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Express Cargo’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are better in initial quality than Mercedes vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet second in initial quality, above the industry average. With 46 more problems per 100 vehicles, Mercedes is ranked 21st, below the industry average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Mercedes vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 44 more problems per 100 vehicles, Mercedes is ranked 21st.

Engine

The Express Cargo’s standard 4.3 V6 produces 140 more horsepower (276 vs. 136) and 3 lbs.-ft. more torque (298 vs. 295) than the eSprinter’s standard electric motor. The Express Cargo’s 4.3 V6 produces 72 more horsepower (276 vs. 204) and 3 lbs.-ft. more torque (298 vs. 295) than the eSprinter’s optional electric motor. The Express Cargo’s optional 6.6 V8 produces 197 more horsepower (401 vs. 204) and 169 lbs.-ft. more torque (464 vs. 295) than the eSprinter’s optional electric motor.

Brakes and Stopping

The Express Cargo’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the eSprinter are solid, not vented.

Tires and Wheels

The Chevrolet Express Cargo’s wheels have 8 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Mercedes eSprinter only has 6 wheel lugs per wheel.

Suspension and Handling

The Express Cargo has standard front gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The eSprinter’s suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

The front suspension of the Express Cargo uses coil springs for better ride, handling and control than the eSprinter, which uses leaf springs. Coil springs compress more progressively and offer more suspension travel for a smoother ride with less bottoming out.

For better maneuverability, the Express Cargo 2500 135” WB’s turning circle is 2.8 feet tighter than the eSprinter’s (49.2 feet vs. 52 feet).

Chassis

The Chevrolet Express Cargo may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1000 to 1500 pounds less than the Mercedes eSprinter.

The Express Cargo 2500 135” WB is 1 foot, 3.6 inches shorter than the eSprinter, making the Express Cargo easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Express Cargo is 11.7 inches shorter in height than the eSprinter, making the Express Cargo much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).

Passenger Space

The Express Cargo 2500 135” WB has 2.5 inches more front legroom, 1.8 inches more front hip room and 1.5 inches more front shoulder room than the eSprinter 144” WB.

Payload and Towing

The Express Cargo’s minimum standard towing capacity is much higher than the eSprinter’s (7100 vs. 4100 pounds). Maximum trailer towing in the Mercedes eSprinter is only 4100 pounds. The Express Cargo 2500 135” WB offers up to a 10,000 lbs. towing capacity.

The Express Cargo 2500 135” WB has a much higher standard payload capacity than the eSprinter (3280 vs. 2624 lbs.).

The Express Cargo has a much higher maximum payload capacity than the eSprinter (4280 vs. 2624 lbs.).

Ergonomics

The Express Cargo offers a remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The eSprinter doesn’t offer a remote starting system.
