Both the Corvette and the 718 Cayman have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras and available blind spot warning systems.

Chevrolet’s powertrain warranty covers the Corvette 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Porsche covers the 718 Cayman. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the 718 Cayman ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are almost 15 times as many Chevrolet dealers as there are Porsche dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Corvette’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Corvette third among compact premium sporty cars in their 2024 Initial Quality Study. The 718 Cayman isn’t in the top three.

Power ranks Chevrolet second in initial quality, above the industry average. With 12 more problems per 100 vehicles, Porsche is ranked 7th.

Power ranks Chevrolet fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 1 more problems per 100 vehicles, Porsche is ranked 6th.

The Corvette has more powerful engines than the 718 Cayman:

In a Car and Driver race course test, the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Z07 Coupe was clocked 1.9 seconds faster than the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS (158.6 sec. vs. 160.5 sec.).

Motor Trend magazine performs a classic 0 to 100 MPH and back to 0 MPH performance test. The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible completed this feat in only 9.7 seconds. It took the Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 12.2 seconds.

On the EPA test cycle the Corvette gets better mileage than the 718 Cayman:

The Corvette can travel with zero emissions on a full charge for 5 miles. The 718 Cayman can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

The Corvette has 4.3 gallons more fuel capacity than the 718 Cayman’s standard fuel tank (18.5 vs. 14.2 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The Corvette has 1.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the 718 Cayman’s optional fuel tank (18.5 vs. 16.9 gallons).

The Corvette has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The 718 Cayman doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Chevrolet Corvette higher (3 to 5 out of 10) than the Porsche 718 Cayman (1 to 5). This means the Corvette produces up to 39 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the 718 Cayman every 15,000 miles.

The Chevrolet Corvette comes standard with an automatic transmission, for driver comfort, especially in the city. Automatic costs extra on the 718 Cayman.

An eight-speed automatic (SMG) is standard on the Chevrolet Corvette, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the 718 Cayman.

All wheel drive, available in the Corvette, provides the best traction for acceleration in wet, dry, and icy conditions. In corners, all wheel drive allows both outside wheels to provide power, balancing the car. This allows for better handling. The Porsche 718 Cayman is not available with all wheel drive.

The Corvette stops much shorter than the 718 Cayman:

For better traction, the Corvette has larger standard tires than the 718 Cayman (F:245/35R19 & R:305/30R20 vs. F:235/45R18 & R:265/45R18). The Corvette Z06/E-Ray/ZR1’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the 718 Cayman (F:275/30R20 & R:345/25R21 vs. F:245/35R20 & R:295/30R20).

The Corvette’s standard 245/35R19 front and 305/30R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 718 Cayman’s standard 45 series tires. The Corvette Z06/E-Ray/ZR1’s 275/30R20 front and 345/25R21 rear tires have a lower 30 series front and 25 series rear profile than the 718 Cayman GT4 RS’ 35 series front and 30 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Corvette has standard 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the 718 Cayman. The Corvette Z06/E-Ray/ZR1’s 21-inch rear wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels optional on the 718 Cayman.

The Corvette has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The 718 Cayman doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires standard on the Corvette can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The 718 Cayman doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Corvette’s wheelbase is 9.8 inches longer than on the 718 Cayman (107.2 inches vs. 97.4 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the Corvette is 5.6 inches wider in the front and 3.8 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the 718 Cayman.

The Corvette Z06 Z07 Coupe handles at 1.16 G’s, while the 718 Cayman pulls only 1.00 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Corvette Z06 Z07 Coupe executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 2.1 seconds quicker than the 718 Cayman (21.9 seconds @ .99 average G’s vs. 24 seconds @ .81 average G’s).

The Corvette’s standard power retractable hardtop allows a seamless transition from an open car, to a completely sealed coupe. The 718 Cayman doesn’t offer a retractable hardtop.

The Corvette uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The 718 Cayman doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

As tested by Car and Driver, the interior of the Corvette Coupe is quieter than the 718 Cayman GT4 RS:

The Corvette has 3 cubic feet more passenger volume than the 718 Cayman (51 vs. 48).

The Corvette has .6 inches more front legroom and 3.1 inches more front shoulder room than the 718 Cayman.

The Corvette has a standard under hood light to help in making nighttime maintenance checks, adding fluids, etc. The 718 Cayman doesn’t offer an under hood light.

The Corvette has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The 718 Cayman doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

Unlike the driver-only memory system optional in the 718 Cayman, the Corvette offers an optional driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, suspension setting and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Corvette offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, tachometer, turn signal and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The 718 Cayman doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

On a hot day the Corvette’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the 718 Cayman can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Corvette has standard Keyless Open and Start that allows you to unlock the doors from either outside door handle, open the trunk, and start the engine, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Porsche Entry and Drive costs extra on the 718 Cayman.

The Corvette’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The 718 Cayman’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

The Corvette’s LED headlights produce a white, bright light using less electricity than the 718 Cayman’s standard xenon high intensity discharge (HID) headlights. HID headlights can be slow to reach full brightness or power cycle, causing issues when flashing them to signal other vehicles; LED headlights light instantly. LED lights also last about three to four times as long.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Corvette has standard extendable sun visors. The 718 Cayman doesn’t offer extendable visors.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Chevrolet Corvette offers an optional wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the front center console. The 718 Cayman doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

Insurance will cost less for the Corvette owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the Corvette will cost $1135 to $9930 less than the 718 Cayman over a five-year period.

The Corvette will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the Corvette will retain 67.13% to 70.13% of its original price after five years, while the 718 Cayman only retains 59.55% to 67.21%.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Chevrolet Corvette will be $3070 to $27531 less than for the Porsche 718 Cayman.
