Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Equinox has standard Reverse Automatic Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Envista doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The Equinox has all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The Envista doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

The Equinox offers an optional Surround Vision to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Envista only offers a rear monitor and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the front or sides.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Equinox has standard Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Braking automatically engages the brakes to help avoid a collision. Buick charges extra for Rear Cross Traffic Alert on the Envista and the Envista’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert does not include automatic braking.

Both the Equinox and the Envista have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems and rearview cameras.

There are almost 3 times as many Chevrolet dealers as there are Buick dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Equinox’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are better in initial quality than Buick vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet second in initial quality, above the industry average. With 4 more problems per 100 vehicles, Buick is ranked fifth.

The Equinox FWD’s standard 1.5 turbo 4-cylinder produces 38 more horsepower (175 vs. 137) and 22 lbs.-ft. more torque (184 vs. 162) than the Envista’s 1.2 turbo 3-cylinder. The Equinox AWD’s standard 1.5 turbo 4-cylinder produces 38 more horsepower (175 vs. 137) and 41 lbs.-ft. more torque (203 vs. 162) than the Envista’s 1.2 turbo 3-cylinder.

The Equinox’s standard fuel tank has 1.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the Envista (14.8 vs. 13.2 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The Equinox AWD’s standard fuel tank has 2.4 gallons more fuel capacity than the Envista (15.6 vs. 13.2 gallons).

For more complete vehicle control the Equinox offers an optional manually controlled automatic, with the available convenience of an automatic transmission and the complete gear control of a manual transmission without the inconvenience of a clutch. A manually controlled automatic allows the driver to eliminate unwanted shifts and maximize engine braking by down shifting while cornering. The Envista doesn’t offer a transmission that allows complete gear control.

An eight-speed automatic is standard on the Chevrolet Equinox AWD, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a six-speed automatic is available for the Envista.

The Equinox FWD has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The Envista doesn’t offer a CVT.

For better traction, the Equinox has larger tires than the Envista (235/65R17 vs. 225/60R17).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Equinox RS offers optional 20-inch wheels. The Envista’s largest wheels are only 19-inches.

For superior ride and handling, the Chevrolet Equinox has fully independent front and rear suspensions. An independent suspension allows the wheels to follow the road at the best angle for gripping the pavement, without compromising ride comfort. The Buick Envista has a rear torsion beam axle, with a semi-independent rear suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Equinox’s wheelbase is 1.5 inches longer than on the Envista (107.5 inches vs. 106 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Equinox is 2.5 inches wider in the front and 2.3 inches wider in the rear than on the Envista.

For better maneuverability, the Equinox’s turning circle is .3 feet tighter than the Envista’s (37.1 feet vs. 37.4 feet). The Equinox’s turning circle is 1.3 feet tighter than the Envista 19” Wheels’ (37.1 feet vs. 38.4 feet).

The Equinox has 6.8 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Envista (104.3 vs. 97.5).

The Equinox has .6 inches more front headroom, 1.9 inches more front hip room, 1.7 inches more front shoulder room, 1.9 inches more rear headroom, 1.2 inches more rear legroom, 5.9 inches more rear hip room and 1.3 inches more rear shoulder room than the Envista.

The Equinox has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Envista with its rear seat up (29.8 vs. 20.7 cubic feet). The Equinox has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Envista with its rear seat folded (63.5 vs. 42 cubic feet).

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Equinox’s liftgate can be opened just by waiting momentarily behind the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Envista doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

The Equinox has a 800 lbs. towing capacity. The Envista has no towing capacity.

When two different drivers share the Equinox ACTIV/RS, the optional memory seats and mirrors make it convenient for both. Each keyless remote activates different, customized memories for the driver’s seat position and outside mirror angle. The Envista doesn’t offer a memory system.

The Equinox’s driver’s power window opens or closes with one touch of the window control, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths. The Envista’s power windows’ switch has to be held the entire time to close it fully.

The Equinox’s standard Keyless Access allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, unlock the cargo door, and start the engine, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Pushbutton Start standard on the Envista only offers hands-free access for the ignition, none to unlock the vehicle.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Equinox has a standard rear wiper. The Envista doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

The Equinox has standard heated front seats. Heated front seats cost extra on the Envista. The Equinox ACTIV/RS also offers optional heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the Envista.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the Equinox ACTIV/RS keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The Envista doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The Equinox has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Envista.

The Equinox’s optional dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. The Envista doesn’t offer dual zone air conditioning.

Both the Equinox and the Envista offer rear vents. For greater rear passenger comfort, the Equinox has standard rear air conditioning vents to keep rear occupants cool in summer or warm in winter. The Envista doesn’t offer rear air conditioning vents, only heat vents.

The Equinox’s standard GPS navigation system has a real-time traffic update feature that plots alternative routes to automatically bypass traffic problems. (Service not available in all areas.) The Envista’s available navigation system doesn’t offer real-time traffic updates.

The Chevrolet Equinox outsold the Buick Envista by almost 16 to one during 2023.
